WHAT IS LEAKY GUT AND WHY IS IT SUCH A BAD THING?

Absorbing nutrients from digested food into our body and keeping toxins and chemicals out is one of the main roles of our Gastrointestinal Tract (GI). However, when the permeability of the gut wall becomes compromised (Leaky Gut) and larger particles of undigested food, endogenous toxins like Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and chemicals from our environment get into our blood stream, the health of our body can rapidly decline.

Essentially these large undigested food particles and toxins are not recognized by our body and we consider them invaders or foreign objects.

WHY USE MARINE COLLAGEN IN VITALITY SWITCH™?

Collagen has been consumed for millions of years by our hunter gatherer ancestors. In fact, bone marrow was often a prized part of the hunt and fishermen would make bone broth (soup) from the remains of the fish bones and skin because they instinctively knew of the healing properties of collagen.

This unique protein is high in hydroxy proline and glycine which helps rebuild connective tissue. This includes bones, ligaments, tendons, skin, hair, nails, and most importantly... the gut!!

Wild Caught Deep Sea Marine Collagen was intentionally selected because it is more sustainable, has less impact on the environment and up to 150% more bioavailable than bovine or porcine collagen.

In Vitality Switch™ we use the skin and bones of wild caught deep sea snapper that have been harvested for meat. This means there is virtually no impact on the environment. Our marine collagen has a molecular weight much smaller (less than 2000 Daltons) than other collagen types which allows for the greater absorption. It also contains significantly higher naturally occurring Hydroxyproline which plays the most critical role in tissue regeneration.

BUT DON'T WE PRODUCE ENOUGH COLLAGEN FROM THE PROTEIN WE CONSUME?

Secondly, we've added Lactobacillus rhamnosus. This super healthy pro-biotic has some incredible research behind it for multiple health concerns including the prevention of weight gain, improved blood sugar management, enhanced liver function and gut health. Wheat and Barley have only recently been cultivated and included in our diet from an evolutionary perspective. They weren't part of our main food supply until approximately 1200 - 7500 years ago.

Even during this time there is no record of them being eaten as grass. In fact, grasses (barley and wheat included) were left for the ruminants (sheep, cattle, pigs, goats etc) to forage since they have four stomach chambers which enable them to digest grass in a way humans cannot.

The addition of Barley and Wheat Grass is relatively recent health kick that started with Charles Schnabel around 80 years ago. He and some colleagues discovered that these forms of cereal grass reached peak nutrient density for just a few days in early spring. This was termed "The Jointing Stage" and the grass must be harvested at this particular time and quickly dried or frozen to preserve the nutrients.
